The first part of today's practical lesson was runned by Helen who showed us pitures of different plaits and buns, both from Elizabethan and modern times, and how to incorporate jewelry in the hairstyle that we want to create. We looked at and discussed some of the photos, and after she showed us how we can create a hairstyle, we started working on our Katie heads.
In my design I tried to mix the old Elizabethan look with the new, the modern adapted look, using some jewelry that Helen gave us in the class.
I am pretty pleased of how my design turned up. The necklace's adornments that I've incorporated into the front reminds me of old bullets that were used in the war, and the pearls give a dramatic effect on the whole look, combined with pearls. In a metaphoric way, the combination of pearls with bullets makes me think about war for purity or war for peace (the pearls symbolising peace, purity in the Elizabethan era), which is obviously an oxymoron which gives my look a modern feel. The pearls that cross the hair path were also usual for the wealthy women, so I incorporated them because I didn't want to modernise the look too much and lose the traditional Elizabethan style. I wish I could have hidden that pins that were showing but that's a lesson for me. That means that I should pay more attention to the details or, maybe the most accurate improvement I could to, do manage my time better.
